Audi will reveal the next-generation ICE-powered A6 on March 4, 2025. The executive sedan was previously supposed to sport the A7 moniker under Audi’s 2023 model nomenclature. Now that Audi has reversed course on that naming strategy, though, the ICE-powered A6 will retain its nameplate as the sedan heads into its sixth generation.

  2. Design for new A6 expected to be in line with latest A5 and Q5

The EV alter ego of the A6 sedan, the A6 e-tron, is already on sale in some international markets and is expected to launch in India later this year. However, it’s worth noting that while both Audi models carry the A6 branding, they’re built on entirely different platforms. The A6 e-tron utilizes Volkswagen’s PPE skateboard, whereas the ICE-powered sedan will leverage the company’s PPC platform.

Next-gen Audi A6: design changes

The 6th-gen A6 is expected to feature Audi’s latest design language. The A6’s styling will likely be brought in line with the third-gen Audi Q5 and A5, both of which were revealed last year. The front end of the next-gen A6 may feature sleek headlights imbued with Audi’s Matrix LEDs, along with large vertical air intakes on the bumper and the brand’s signature hexagonal grille. Over to the rear, a light bar running across the width of the A6 can be anticipated, as well as a redesigned bumper.

Next-gen Audi A6: engine options

ICE-powered 6th-gen A6 models will be split between petrol and diesel engines, but India may not get the latter option. The TFSI variants of the next-gen A6 are expected to sport a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine, whereas the TDI variants will likely be equipped with a 2.0L turbo-diesel unit. Both powerplants will be accompanied by a 48V mild-hybrid setup and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Some markets may also receive a spicier S6 variant with a 3.0L turbo-petrol V6.

The current A6 was launched in India back in 2019 and both of its closest competitors, the Mercedes-Benz E Class and BMW 5 Series, have received generational upgrades since then. Therefore, the Audi sedan is due for a brand-new iteration, and only time will tell how long it’ll take for the next-gen Audi A6 to reach Indian shores after debuts globally on March 4.
