Tata Punch sales, 5 lakh Punch sold in India, Tata Punch facelift launch, best selling SUV

The Tata Punch has achieved the 5 lakh sales milestone in just over three years since its October 2021 launch. This feat comes shortly after the Punch became India’s best-selling car in 2024, surpassing even the Maruti Wagon R and Hyundai Creta

Tata Punch sales analysis

The Punch has, since its launch, contributed to 29 percent of Tata Motors’ total PV sales of 17,39,646. In August 2022, it became the first SUV in India to achieve the 1,00,000 wholesales milestone in just 10 months, crossed the 1,50,000 mark in 15 months after launch, 2,00,000 in 20 months, 3,00,000 in 28 months and 4,00,000 in 2024, just 32 months after launch. The most recent run from 4,00,000 to 5,00,000 wholesales took six months.

The best fiscal year for the Punch was FY2024 with 1,69,844 units or average monthly sales of 14,153 units, as per wholesales data for the past 38 months seen in the table above. While the FY2025 has about three months left, the best-selling SUV already achieved 87 percent of its FY2024 sales with average monthly sales of 16,452 units in the past nine months (up 27 percent YoY). It might set a new record during this fiscal so stay tuned.

Tata Punch prices increased in 2025

26 variants of the Tata Punch have seen a price hike in January 2025, starting from Rs 7,090 and going up to Rs 17,090. While the former figure applies only to the base Pure variant, the latter price hike applies to the top-spec Adventure trims and Creative Plus S AMT Camo variant. Prices of variants like the Pure (O), Adventure Plus S AMT and Creative Plus S Camo have been hiked by Rs 12,090. 

Tata first launched the Punch at Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom) in 2021, to fill a ‘white space’ that existed in the PV market. The starting price of the Punch in 2025 has gone up to Rs 6.20 lakh. Following its launch, carmakers like Citroen launched the C3 (Rs 6.16 lakh onwards), followed by the Hyundai Exter (Rs 6.20 lakh onwards).
