Volkswagen Tiguan R Line: how fast does the SUV go from 0-100kph?

The old VW Tiguan did 0-100kph in under 8.5 seconds. Is the latest-generation SUV, in R-Line guise, any quicker?

The new Volkswagen Tiguan, which has been launched with the R-Line styling package in India for the first time, comes with a comprehensive list of upgrades. Though the R-Line models mainly bring sporty design touches from the brand’s high-performance R cars, Volkswagen has also bumped up the Tiguan’s power output, making it a lot quicker than before. So, how fast does the 2025 Tiguan R-Line sprint from 0-100kph?

  2. Gets a 7-speed DCT transmission
  3. Power is sent to all four wheels

Volkswagen Tiguan R Line powertrain specs

Tiguan R Line’s engine displaces 1984cc, just like its predecessor

Volkswagen Tiguan R Line powertrain specs
Engine 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol
Power 204hp at 4,500-6,000rpm
Torque 320Nm at 1,500-4,400rpm
Transmission 7DCT (dual-clutch transmission)
Drive layout Front engine, all-wheel drive (AWD)

The new-generation Tiguan carries forward the same 1,984cc (2-litre) TSI engine as its predecessor, but power is now bumped to 204hp, an increase of 14hp; peak torque output remains unchanged at 320Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen Tiguan R Line acceleration times

0-100kph in 7.1 seconds is about 1.4 seconds faster than the previous Tiguan

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line acceleration figures from a standstill
From rest (in kph) Time (in seconds)
20 1.12
40 2.03
60 3.26
80 5.01
100 7.10
120 9.89
140 13.83

From a standstill, the VW Tiguan R-Line reaches 20kph in 1.12 seconds, 60kph in 3.26 seconds, and hits 100kph in 7.1 seconds, which is about 1.4 seconds quicker than the old Tiguan’s 8.5-second time. The run to 120kph takes 9.89 seconds, and it clocks 140kph in 13.83 seconds. Yes, a 0-100kph time of slightly over 7 seconds is respectable for an SUV of this size, but our Tiguan R-Line review noted that power delivery lacks punch, especially in the bottom end of the rev range. The Volkswagen SUV does offer multiple drive modes, including a Sport mode that sharpens throttle response slightly. However, beyond that, it largely prefers a relaxed driving style.

One highlight is the response from the paddle shifters. Even though the Tiguan’s gearbox doesn’t hold gears till the 7,000rpm redline and upshifts around 6,000rpm, the DCT unit offers good control over downshifts.

Volkswagen Tiguan R Line in-gear acceleration

Both 20-80kph and 40-100kph sprints in kickdown take less than 6 seconds

In terms of in-gear acceleration, the new VW SUV performs reasonably well. The Tiguan R-Line takes 4.15 seconds to accelerate from 20-80kph in third gear and 5.32 seconds to go from 40-100kph in fourth gear.

Before we conduct our performance tests, we check and maintain tyre pressure based on the manufacturer’s recommendation and ensure the car has a full tank of fuel. The car is then tested in a controlled environment with two people on board, and the data is collected via highly accurate GPS-based timing equipment.
